Two-Thirds Of iDevices Now Running iOS 10

(Photo : Rob Stothard | Getty Images.        Wh.ile iOS 10 initially fell behind previous OS versions in terms of adoption rate, the new iteration of Apple's mobile software is now installed on two-thirds of iPhones and iPads, based on the latest market analyses.

The data is particularly useful for app developers to gauge how fast the market, which is using the new OS, is growing and assess the next few updates to their own apps.
In early October, third-party software and app tracking groups Mixpanel and AppLovin placed the figure north of 50 percent two weeks after the new iOS was released. Since Sunday, however, Mixpanel reported 66 percent of iDevices have started operating on iOS 10For mobile marketing technology analyst Fiksu, the number is slightly higher at record-breaking 66.7 percent. The rate shows at this point the fastest adoption of any iOS.
These numbers indicate that two out of every three active iPhones and iPads now rely on iOS 10. The spike in usage is considered unusual because adoption of iOS 10 picked up remarkably only between Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, when it registered a 20 percent increase in this short period, according to Fiksu

iOS 10 Wasn't An Early Hit

On Sept. 5, about a week before the launch of iOS 10, Mixpanel recorded that 89.31 percent of active iDevices were running on iOS 9. It dropped to 71.61 percent a week later.
But iOS 10 wasn't always readily embraced by users. In fact, it trailed behind the adoption rates seen with iOS 6, 7 and 9 during the iOS 10's first two weeks of life.

On Day 20 from the time of release, at 58.3 percent, iOS 10 began to slightly overtake the adoption rates registered by iOS 9 (57.7 percent) and iOS 6 (58 percent) within the same period after their own launch. But iOS 10 was still no match for the level of adoption received by the iOS 7 almost three weeks after the 2013 firmware went live.

Apple iOS 10 is seeing an adoption rate higher than than iOS 9, in the last 24 hours.

______________________________________________________________ Apple iOS 10 has been officially rolled out for customers, and it appears the current adoption rate has been quite high. iOS 10 has already surpassed iOS 9’s adoption rate for under 24 hours, according to data from Mixpanel which shows the new OS has a 14.53 per cent adoption rate after 24 hours of the release, nearly 2 percentage points higher than iOS 9.
In case of iOS 9, the adoption rate stood at 12.42 per cent after 24 hours, according to Mixpanel. Apple is yet to announce the official release numbers for iOS 10 adoption, so it’s hard to confirm this data.According to Mixpanel though, iOS 10’s adoption is increasing at a rate of approximately 4.41 per cent per hour and they predict it will reach 50 per cent mark in the next 11 days. For iOS 9 that took around 12 days, while iOS 8 took over 31 days, but it won’t beat iOS 7 which hit the mark in just five days flat.Interestingly Mixpanel also says they’re seeing less engagement from those who have updated to iOS 10; “an average number of 19 actions per iOS 10 device,” according to their blogpost. On the other hand, Android Nougat users engaged more with the new OS and “completed 42 actions in the first hours of adoption,” claims Mixpanel.
Apple iOS 10 didn’t have the smoothest start. Many iPhone users complained their devices were getting bricked when tried to install the update straight from the Settings app on their phone. Apple had acknowledged the issue and instead asked users to switch to the iTunes method of install the new OS. Apple said the issue was discovered and fixed by them soon.
Apple iOS 10 opts for more active and bigger notifications, a Siri which has access to third-party apps, iMessages which have a lot more options including their own App Store, Stickers and the ability to send GIFs and payments via Apple Pay. Apple is also adding new features like Memories to the Photos app to stitch together pictures from a past event or forgotten trips.
Apple iOS 10 is compatible with iPhone 5 and above, all iPad Air models, iPad 4th generation, iPad Mini 4,3 and 2 as well as iPod Touch 6th generation.

According to data from Mixpanel,  iOS 10 surpassed iOS 9’s adoption rate for under 24 hours.
